Q&A: If using a hoist on a service user, where would you be moving them from and moving them to?

Question by Vera: If using a hoist on a service user, where would you be moving them from and moving them to?
Sorry, I hope the question makes sense.
Could you also tell me, if you know, when you would use a slideboard (this is a large plastic board which the service user is rolled onto) on a service user…again, where would you be moving them from and to?

Sorry about all this…..It’s for an assignment :)

God Bless
Vera

check with your employer’s policies on this, they may be different based on the equipment and local laws … the equipment manufacturer may have recommendations that differ from policy based on previous legal action, however, your employer’s policies will have examined the legal implications before forming policy to protect themselves in case of accident or failure.

what are the most important issues to take into considerations when going to use a hoist?

Question by felskhee: what are the most important issues to take into considerations when going to use a hoist?

Best answer:

Answer by Number 6
Do you mean a hoist for lifting things, usually with a chain / hook etc

If so, then here’s a few important safety points:

The equipment should be in good condition / fit for purpose and on an inspection schedule with a label attached, do not use after such a date.

Marked up what the maximum load is.

Any straps / chain etc should also be in good condition / inspected as above.

All operators should be trained to a good standard.

Operations should be occasionally audited to ensure that the system of operation is being adhered too.

Areas around the hoist should be free of clutter / floor marked up / or barrier in place to prevent others from becoming in the ‘line of fire’.
